Dancing Dragonflies

There’s something magical about dragonflies, the way they hover between worlds, their iridescent wings catching the light like fragments of stained glass. This piece was born from a quiet moment near the lake, where I watched two dragonflies just beyond reach. I wanted to capture not just their forms, but the feeling they evoke, the delicate balance of strength and fragility, the way they embody both freedom and fleetingness. Painted in fluid, intuitive layers, the abstracted shapes melt into bold, expressive strokes, suggesting wings mid-beat or the ripple of light on a pond. Soft washes of colour blend with metallic accents, creating depth that shifts as you move around the piece similarly to a dragonfly’s wings change hue in the sun. It’s a celebration of the unnoticed poetry in nature, a reminder to pause and cherish the small, shimmering moments that pass too quickly.
